For those individuals in Atlanta dealing with memory challenges and the early onset of Alzheimer's - life can be made doubly hard. Not only are these individuals dealing with the new reality of day-to-day issues of life, but they are in positions of now having to "burden" their adult children who are desperate for ways to keep their parents safe and their minds stimulated - while trying to maintain their own work schedules.
The Vivian T. Minor Adult Day Care Center provides the answer with an environment that is nurturing and active, to assist in delaying the effects of Alzheimer's and dementia. Since 1972, ADC has provided supervised care for frail elderly in a protective setting outside their own homes. This SCS program is designed to provide a community-based alternative to institutionalization and also gives the family caregivers a very important respite.
The ADC program features activities and social programs such as: crafts, games, music therapy, movies, performances, exercise classes and field trips. We also have an annual fashion show, various family events to bring the generations together, and support group meetings.
Each participant receives breakfast and a hot lunch, and can apply to receive transportation to and from the center each day.
The programs of SCS offer opportunities for our community to come together in volunteering - and the Adult Day Care program is no different. This very special volunteer role, gives you the ability to help improve the quality of life of an older adult in such a simple way - just by being present!
You may be called upon to assist with crafts, dancing, singing, board games or you may find yourself sharing a memory with one of our amazing seniors - each with a very special history. And the Adult Day Care Center is also always on the lookout for Licensed service providers willing to donate their time as manicurists, hair stylists, or cosmetologists. These little touches can make such a difference in the way our seniors feel!
Your contribution of time or money will enable SCS to continue to provide this necessary resource for Atlanta seniors and their families.
