SCS provides nutritious meals to homebound seniors.

SCS delivers more than 90,000 meals a year to Atlanta seniors who, for a variety of reasons, may be unable to meet their own nutritional needs . From short-term to long-term assistance, the difference SCS and its volunteers makes to these seniors is undeniable. In addition to the nutrition aspect, the daily visits made by staff and volunteers to individuals whose lives are mobility-limited, make such a difference to these seniors’ lives.

SCS delivers a variety of meal types that help to accommodate seniors’ specific needs - quality options such as diabetic, low-sodium, renal, mechanical soft, vegetarian, modified and regular meals.

SCS is the oldest provider of home-delivered meals in Atlanta. We work closely with other organizations and several churches in identifying those seniors who can benefit from
our services. Each client is qualified based upon age, nutrition, and financial need within our service area.

Each program day, a team of staff and volunteers come together to fulfill that day's delivery. With established routes throughout Atlanta, the Meals On Wheels Atlanta program lends itself easily to a variety of volunteer schedules. Meal deliveries occur Tuesday through Saturday, so whether you have two hours one day a week, 3 hours one Saturday a month, or 4 hours once a year, SCS gives our volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many of Atlanta's elders.

Every Christmas and Thanksgiving, we have a special volunteer opportunity for families and individuals. The shorter routes for these special delivery days (4 to 6 seniors), gives folks the ability to come out and "give back" to people they've never met, and still have time to have a traditional celebration of these two holidays.

Over 200 volunteer hours are given to the SCS Meals On Wheels Atlanta program each month.  The need for volunteers will continue to grow as the number of seniors in our city grows to its highest level in history.
