SCS operates community senior centers where seniors can thrive.

Want to see the positive difference our Neighborhood Senior Centers make? If you are 55+ you can experience the exciting and fun programs available at our neighborhood centers. If you are younger, you can volunteer to help in general ways, teach a class or help with maintenance projects. SCS manages eight centers that offer social, health and wellness and educational opportunities for seniors throughout Fulton County.

Each center is unique and offers a variety of programs and opportunities that are geared toward helping older adults remain healthy, active and independent. When the adult kids are busy with their own professional lives, and the days seem a little empty - seniors in our communities come and re-energize with projects and activities that allow them to be as social as they would like. Center members can experience a social atmosphere where they can read the paper or they can choose to take classes or participate as they would like.

The good work of the Neighborhood Senior Centers are possible through a collaboration between the Fulton County Office of Aging, Project Open Hand-Atlanta and Visiting Nurse Health System.

Last year, SCS had over 650 registered participants in our eight neighborhood centers. Here are just some of the benefits our senior center members receive: Access to community resources; Health and Wellness and Nutrition classes and programs; Health screenings (blood pressure and sugar levels, vision and hearing testing); Computer classes; Creative crafts and ceramic classes; Sewing projects and classes; Fitness classes; and of course organized trips (from day-trips for shopping to overnight trips to the beach). Sound like something you or a senior you know would enjoy? Contact the Center Manager near you for more information.

Our seniors stay busy!

Our volunteers don't lack for excitement either. And scheduling for these volunteer opportunities is extremely flexible! The senior centers need assistance with activities such as: craft-work, quilting, sewing, office work, shopping assistance, computer teachers. The centers are also always on the lookout for Licensed service providers willing to donate their time as manicurists, hair stylists, or cosmetologists. Contact the Center Manager for more information. (Link back to Center Manager list and contact info)

This program (like the HOMES program) accepts donations of materials and tools from professional businesses, including: material, notions, and equipment for sewing classes; ceramic clay and other crafting materials; newspapers, magazines, and other materials as needs arise.

Your contribution of time or money will enable SCS to continue to provide and expand the wonderful programs and activities that keep Atlanta's seniors active in their communities.
