Executive Team

 

Jeffrey Smythe is the Executive Director for Senior Citizen Services of Metropolitan Atlanta, and had served as SCS' Development Director prior to his current position.  Jeff has always been involved in the nonprofit field, whether through youth mental health initiatives or HIV/AIDS support.  He participated in World Teach in 1996, teaching English in rural Costa Rica for one year.  Soon thereafter Jeff moved to Atlanta and completed his Master's in Public Administration from Georgia State University.  He currently serves on the Boards of The Georgia Institute on Aging, Georgia Perimeter College's Continuing Education department, and PACE (substance abuse/prevention and housing).  Jeff enjoys time with friends and family, hiking, running, music and is active with his church.

Brad Catherman is the Vice President of Gift Planning at SCS. He enables donors to form a comprehensive giving plan that matches their needs with those of SCS and its programs. Prior to joining SCS, Brad won awards for marketing achievement in three different industries, including the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Award of Excellence for his planned giving program at Marist School. He serves on the Board of Trustees and Consumer Development Committee of the Georgia Center for Positive Aging. As a member of the Georgia Planned Giving Council, Brad was co-founder of the Atlanta Monthly Study Group. Previous business assignments include those with Cox Communications, Home Box Office, Turner Broadcasting, and MCI Communications. Brad received his BS in Psychology from Emory University, and his MS in Business from St. Thomas University/Miami.


 

Jaclyn Barbarow, Grants and Database Administrator, is a graduate of Emory University with a degree in religion and women’s studies. She coordinates all grant proposals and reports, and manages the gift entry and acknowledgement process. Prior to serving in this capacity, she managed Meals On Wheels Atlanta where she implemented new methods of service delivery. Jaclyn was nominated to serve on the Atlanta City Council’s Commission on Aging (2008-2012) by Councilman Cesar Mitchell, and was elected by the Commission to serve as its secretary (2008-2010). Her current non-SCS volunteer activities include promoting health care for at-risk populations, providing support for legal and feminist community-building nonprofits, and integrating diverse communities. Jaclyn expects to graduate from Georgia State University’s Masters in Public Administration program in 2009 with a concentration in Nonprofit Management.


 

Carla Geeter is the Office/Building Manager for SCS. She manages vendor relationships, as well as coordination of all Board activities. In addition to her support role for SCS staff, she also manages tenant relationships for those who lease space in our main building. Steven Hargrove is the Director of Events and Marketing at Senior Citizen Services of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc.  In that position, he is responsible for major fundraising events such as A Meal to Remember and the annual Golf Tournament which raise over $400,000 each year.  He has also worked in the HOMES Program and served as Interim Director of Meals on Wheels Atlanta.  Prior to joining SCS, he worked in legal recruiting and served as Assistant Dean for Career Services at Emory University School of Law.

Patrick O’Kane, Director of Operations - develops and implements the annual fund strategies and programs that include cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts from individuals and organizations to support Senior Citizen Services’ mission.  He maintains and is constantly working toward improving the quality of the database of all donors, volunteers, and other information inquires.  Patrick has been a leader in nonprofit organizations for more than six years, including roles for developing relationships that grow into major gifts supporting initiatives for HIV/AIDS clients.  Most recently, he has managed multiple programs for an agency supporting seniors, ensuring client satisfaction and working to improve agencies’ process improvements for seniors throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area.  pokane@scsatl.org 404-605-8445


 

Barbara Bond-Gentry, Director of Finance and Human Resources is responsible for the overall fiscal management and financial well being of the organization. She ensures that the highest ethical standards in financial management are implemented and adhered to. Prior to joining SCS, Barbara was the Finance Director for a nonprofit organization called Women Helping Women, in Cincinnati, OH. She has over 10 years of diverse accounting experience, in both the public and private sector. She has worked as an auditor for Ernst & Young and a Small Business Consultant for SS&G Financial Services. Barbara received her BS in Accounting from Norfolk State University. She is currently the President of The Ladies of My Sister’s Keeper outreach ministry and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Julie Jones - Senior Center Manager. Julie Jones is the Director of Senior Centers.  Julie comes to us from Cincinnati Ohio.  Julie has volunteered with Senior Services at the Adult Daycare when visiting her daughter here in Atlanta. She has been with Senior Citizen Services for two years as the manager of the Cosby Spear Center.

Roberta Williams-Todd is the Director of the Senior Corps Companion Program at Senior Citizen Services of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc. Roberta is responsible for the Senior Companions which support other seniors that require assistance so that they may keep their independence. Prior to coming to SCS she worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a prep medical student, Atlanta public school elementary teacher, Head Start lead teacher, Intergeneration Coordinator and FGP/RSVP/SCP Coordinator and served for many years as the Director of the Adult Day Care program at SCS.

Jerrell Saddler comes to SCS with wealth of government, corporate and grassroots experience.  Currently, he is responsible for developing and cultivating relationships with community, corporate, civic and social groups to encourage volunteerism.  He serves as the Manager for the Care Share/ Wisdom Works Program promoting volunteerism among Atlanta’s age 50 and older residents. Jerrell manages volunteer services throughout all programs and Senior Centers.  Prior to joining SCS, he was a Corporate Recruiter in the Technology Industry.

Mary Hart is the Volunteer Services Coordinator for SCS. She handles individual and group volunteer placement for all of SCS’ Programs.

Mary worked for many years as a Lead Community Organizer/Activist in Washington, DC. She was instrumental in getting the first organic garden written into the Earth Science Curriculum for middle school students attending DC Public Schools under the direction of D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty. She was also instrumental in providing facts and personal stories for the Federal Reserve Committee on Foreclosure/Predatory Lending Hearings in 2007 where she organized hundreds of moderate- to low-income citizens to fight for a two year moratorium for foreclosed homes and ultimately made “predatory lending” illegal in the district.

Mary has a 15 year background in personal lines insurance underwriting and attended Murray State University in Murray, KY. Mary continues to lend her voice and time through volunteer efforts with the ACFB, Amnesty International and Georgians for Alternatives for the Death Penalty (GFADP) and is the sole owner of her own social justice internet radio talk show. She is also the proud mother of a “gifted” 13-year-old daughter.

Kelvin Turks is the Director of the Vivian T. Minor Adult Day Health program at Senior Citizen Services of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc. Kelvin is responsible for the programs that are offered in the Adult Day Health Center including working closely with Senior Companion Program and AARP. Kelvin received his Social Work degree from Northwestern State University in 2001and has focused his career in gerontology since moving to Atlanta. Neena Malone, MOWA Manager. Neena is the Meals On Wheels Atlanta (MOWA) Manager. She is responsible for conducting the work necessary to successfully operate a nonprofit home-delivered meals program, including the day-to-day operations, and short- and long-term growth and development. Neena is responsible for managing the Meals On Wheels Atlanta team, which includes both paid staff and volunteers. In addition, the Neena looks after the needs of each client as holistically as possible. Meals On Wheels Atlanta includes many facets, including a daily home-delivered meal program, a community-involvement program, an Urgent Meals program, and the Community Cupboard for Seniors collaboration.
